The Dragon’s Heart- Chapter 1-The One Who Stood (just edited If you already read it, please read it again because I changed somethings)

The demon’s awoke in the majestic smell of…magic. The king of demons, Diabolos, followed the scent to a gifted magical baby girl called Elenore with water powers. He snatched her from her parents, Queen Sapphire and King Rufus. Elenore was taken to the demon’s lair.

Diabolos wanted the magic for himself. He was about to strike the slumbering girl with his trident when suddenly, the girl woke up unexpectedly and Diabolos’s trident rose in the air, and stabbed Diabolos himself in the heart. He screamed in agony as lava poured out of his body. The girl, Elenore, fell asleep again peacefully on the volcano ground sleeping, as the lava did not affect her.

Three explorers went to explore the volcano that night. They watched the whole scene happen in horror. One explorer fainted. The other went nauseous. The one remaining explorer picked up the baby and the other two bodies with massive effort. It didn’t help that the fainted explorer was actually fat and overweight. But it did help that the explorer that went nauseous actually did workout everyday.

With no idea where the baby came from, the one explorer took the baby and the overweight explorer (and the nauseous one) to Ember kingdom where the explorers came from.  Many years later, Elenore was eleven. She grew to be determined, adventurous, funny and free-spirited. She had long, dark hair. Her skin was a little sunburnt after spending eleven years in the scorching Ember kingdom. She also had greyish blue eyes- the colour of the ocean. Elenore could control water, talk to sea animals and breathe underwater.

Of course, when the explorer took her to Ember kingdom, he had no idea what Elenore’s name was. Elenore didn’t even know her own name. She slept in a modern cabin. One night when she was in her cabin, reading, a knight of Ember kingdom called her to a meeting with the king and queen. She never met with the king and queen before. She slipped on her white coat and jeans. The walk to the castle was not very long. When she stepped into the castle, it was just like any other castle. Majestic, warm and grand.

They entered the massive throne room. The windows were mosaic stained glass. There were grand chandeliers everywhere on the roof. A long royal satin carpet leading to the thrones. The thrones had a pure gold base. They were covered in silk for the king and queen to sit on comfortably. There were two gargoyles of a phoenix (one next to each throne.) The king and queen were dressed in fine robes. The queens robe was purple and the kings was red. Their crowns sparkled in the light of the chandeliers. ‘Your majesties’ said the knight ‘I was wondering if we could give the girl a fake name while we search for her real name?’ asked the knight. The king and queen considered this for a moment. It was an awkward silence for about ten seconds. ‘Yes. Yes, that might just work’ said the king. The queen nodded and said ‘ I think you can choose Sir Rufus’ said the queen to the knight. The knight, Sir Rufus, was silent for a long time. ‘What about Evelyn Sapphire’  suggested Sir Rufus at last. ‘That would be acceptable. But with a last name like that, won’t people think  she is from the Crystal Kingdom, our enemy?’ asked the queen.’ Well there is a chance she is from the Crystal kingdom, isn’t there?’ asked Sir Rufus. ‘ Yes, alright’ said the king. ‘You are dismissed.’ ‘But does that mean that’s my name temporarily?’ asked Evelyn. ‘Yes, correct.’ said the king. ‘Now out.’ ‘You will be signed in to the School of Embers’ said the queen. Then Evelyn and the knight left the castle.

Each afternoon, Evelyn would walk to the forest and stare at the lake trying to guess which kingdom she came from. It was said that Diabolos only attacked the girl because he knew Evelyn would be destined to kill him, since Diabolos had fire power and Evelyn had water power. The two opposing elements.

Evelyn had power because she was the destined one. The destined one is someone who is destined to defeat evil and learn how to control magic. She or he is supposed to go on an epic journey bringing teamwork friendship and persistence along with them. And there she stood. The only person who ever survived the king of demons. Everyday, Evelyn would hear the cackle of Diabolos inside her head, and never tell anyone about it. ”I await you”

On a scorching hot day as usual, Evelyn started her first day of the School of Embers. There she had to take a tour with a girl called Lily Phionexfeather, the school guide. She was a tall teenager with green eyes, a splash of freckles and a proud determined look. ‘Please take the new student on a tour around the school may I ask Lily’ said the school ten feet tall principal, Miss Elburn with a high shrill voice.

Lily nodded and gestured for Evelyn to follow her. ‘Don’t worry the principal is a little dark sometimes, just don’t get in trouble or she’ll give you twenty smacks on the back with her truck sized hand,’ giggled Lily. Evelyn asked why they even chose Miss Elburn as a principal. ‘Because she’s a strict but fair teacher,’ replied Lily with a voice of hatred. After a hundred more questions from Evelyn , Lily asked, ‘would you like to be friends? I see your lonely.’ Evelyn accepted the offer gladly and just in time, the lunch bell rang.

At lunch, Evelyn saw a skinny short boy with a tattered maroon shirt and ripped jeans. ‘Who is that and why does his shirt look like he’s been in lava for a year?’ asked Evelyn. ‘Oh that’s Hector Aquaspear and he’s just won the Ember Death Tournament’ replied Lily with a mouthful of lettuce. ‘What’s the Ember Death Tournament?’ questioned Evelyn. ‘It’s where all the student’s have to fight to their death and the last one standing wins, but don’t worry cause you always revive at the school gate’ ‘here you try’ said Lily. She grabbed her axe and cut Evelyn’s head off. In a second Evelyn was standing in front of the gate. ‘But if you get killed outside of the school you’re dead’ said Hector’s voice behind them.

Judging by Lily’s look on her face, Hector said, ‘Sorry don’t mind me I was just interested.’  ‘uh… okay.’ replied Lily. Evelyn poked in and asked Hector,’ can you teach us battle stuff?’ Lily then cut in and said ‘oh no no no we’re fine’ but Hector then started blabbering about sword and shield protection. After a while Hector randomly stopped and said, ‘sorry if I’m making you bored’ he said looking at Lily who was yawning every eight seconds. Not long after Lily woke up and said that she and Evelyn would make friends with him if he stopped talking about swordsmanship. Later that day, Sir Rufus told Evelyn that she would be staying in the Ember Palace in dorm 199.

It was not long after that Evelyn found out that Lily was good at inventing stuff and Hector was good at battling and being annoying. Back at Ember Palace Evelyn was exhausted and jumped on her queen sized bed In room 199.

Ember Palace was a warm, cosy place with 1000 rooms. Evelyn lived in room 199 with a fireplace, a soft bed and other furniture you’d expect to see in a dorm. Evelyn’s maid was a plump lady with a bun and a dark blue apron called Maya.

In Ember Kingdom, Evelyn learned how to fight with a sword (she had to use a baseball bat because you would be given a permanent sword only if you were an expert). The training leader was a blue-eyed boy called Leo Sullivan. She also did archery and hard studies of the magical world and monsters.

One extremely hot summer, Evelyn, Lily and Hector were walking down the Ember palace hallway. ‘I’d give anything for a nice refreshing drink’ said Lily. ‘ Oh shut up you said that about half a million times already’ exclaimed Hector sounding annoyed. ‘Evelyn please!’ said Lily and Hector for the one thousandth time. ‘FINE.’ said Evelyn, frustrated. Evelyn curled her fists and closed her eyes. Ice, ice, ice… She opened her eyes. Evelyn just made Lily and Hector turn to ice cubes. She unfroze them and they sighed with relief.

Suddenly, an announcement came. ‘EVELYN SAPPHIRE, LILY PHEONIXFEATHER AND HECTOR AQUASPEAR, COME TO MAIN OFFICE NOW’ ‘Man, why am I always last in the announcements’ whined Hector.

In the main office, Leo Sullivan, the sword master, was waiting for them. ‘Congratulations!’ Leo exclaimed cheerfully. ‘You’ve received your swords for outstanding swordsmen skills and development in reflecting, sneak-attacking and swift strikes.’ ‘Umm…okay,’ Hector said with a puzzled look. ‘Hector, your sword is made of the rarest bronze, name it Windstrike.’ ‘Sweet,’ Hector exclaimed. ‘Lily, your sword is made of smooth silver, Stormstrider.’ Lily clawed at her face. ‘And Evelyn, your sword is made of pure gold. Treat Lightriser carefully’ Evelyn grabbed her sword and stared at it in awe. ‘You may leave now’ said Leo.

When they left the main office, the three were really proud of their swords. ‘Woah! pure gold, no fair!’ Hector kept on saying to Evelyn. That night, Evelyn couldn’t sleep. It felt strange being called ‘Evelyn.’ But finally, she fell asleep and everything blacked out. She drifted into snoring mode.
