Dragon Heart : Chapter 3- The Coin Elves

Evelyn poked meaninglessly at the ground with a birch stick. Today was hotter than usual, and the meadow of white dandelions had drooped down and devolved into nothing but crisps. Barely no one was in the usually overpacked town square. Surely nothing interesting would happen on this hot gloomy day. Just as Evelyn thought that, a silvery-blue twinkle came from under a pile of rocks. Curiously, Evelyn crawled over to the pile and confirmed that it was some sort of coin. She reached out to it and scanned it carefully for anything alarming. Emblazoned on the coin were big letters saying C.K. Evelyn knew this was not the fire currency and it most likely came from a different kingdom. Maybe she could show Lily and Hector and ask if they knew anything about it.

Entering the school dormitory, the relief of the cool air was extremely pleasant. Going to her dorm, Evelyn questioned Lily and Hector about this coin.

‘I don’t know, maybe you should ask the coin elves,’ Lily advised, ‘they are a whiz at inspecting coins and currencies, but I heard they are really greedy and rude though.’

‘Once the elves charged a man ten million fire coins just to examine a 100-year old Crystal Kingdom coin,’ added Hector, ‘the man asked the Queen for money’. Evelyn already didn’t like these elves. ‘Are they the only way to find out what this coin means?’ asked Evelyn. All Evelyn got as an answer was a small nod from Lily and a shrug from Hector.

The tiny, wooden blue door for entry of the coin elves house was no bigger than a toddler. The coin elves house was more of a tree. Evelyn knocked the door thrice. She could hear grunting, a chair scraping the floor and then three pairs of feet coming.

‘HEY, WHAT’RE YOU DOING ON THIS HOT DAY?! YOU KNOW WE ‘ERE JUSTING STARTIN’ LUNCH?,’ a gruff and rather annoyed voice shouted.

‘Sorry to disturb you,’ exclaimed Evelyn, ‘are you in service now?’

‘I don’t know, are we?’ said another rough voice. ‘If you have eyes, then you might find the answer’.

Evelyn couldn’t believe that she didn’t realize the colossal sign on the wall. Stated on it with white paint and messy writing was: ‘ WE ARE CLOSED. GO AWAY.’

‘Please, just let me in,’ Evelyn whispered, hiding her annoyance, ‘it’s really urgent.’

A figure stepped out of the door. He was no taller than your knee and had hundreds of warts and a unusual pointy nose. His ears were as long as your arm and was really quite pathetic and freakish with his beady small eyes. From their speech they had a strange accent, missing some letters. ‘Fine. But since you came when we were closed, we’ll have to charge you extra,’ grunted the elf.

‘Now why are you ‘ere’?’, asked the third elf with a mouth full of durian. ‘Is all you eat durian?’ asked Evelyn even though it was completely off-topic. ‘Yes.’ answered the second elf. ‘Now if you were only here too ask if all we eat is durians, get out.’

‘Oh sorry,’ said Evelyn, ‘anyway, I came here to ask you about this coin.’

‘That’s a coin from the Crystal Kingdom,’ remarked the first elf after examining it for a while, ‘and that one is rare. It was from the Royal Family, dated back in 1568.’ ‘Now get out kid and let us eat our durians in peace.’ Evelyn tried to hold back the bubbling, tempting feeling to slap every one of these elves wrinkled faces a hundred times or more for their rudeness.

As Evelyn walked through the empty, cobbled streets, she thought about her parents. She couldn’t ignore the thought that possibly someone in the Crystal Kingdom might be her parents. ‘HEY COME BACK HERE, KID,’ screeched an elf popping back out of the treehouse shouting to Evelyn. ‘YOU ‘AVENT PAID YOUR BILL YET! DONT WORRY, IT ISN’T THAT EXPENSIVE. WE’LL GIVE YOU A DISCOUNT SINCE WE’RE IN A KIND OF GOOD MOOD!!!, AND YOU HAVE FIVE DAYS TO PAY IT’. Evelyn realized obviously that they were not in a good mood. Hopefully her bill wasn’t that expensive. After all, she just asked the elves to inspect the coin.

She walked away staring at her bill. One billion fire coins was crossed out and replaced with sixty

billion fire coins. To Evelyn, and most people, that wasn’t a discount. Anyway, before considering

the possibility that her parents might be from the Crystal Kingdom, Evelyn needed to borrow

some money from the Queen.

The Dragon’s Heart-Chapter 2-The dream

Evelyn found herself in a volcano the size of a million football fields. There, in the middle of a humongous volcano, was a whole crowd of demons. In front of the ghastly crowd, was a slightly larger demon and a cauldron. ‘Just only one more ingredient,’ he said to the crowd, ‘and our king will rise. The ingredient will need many more servants than just me. We need the enemies blood.’ The crowd cheered a deafening cheer like the sound of stone clanking with metal. ‘The one and only golden blood from the one who survived our majesties attack.’ The crowd cheered even louder. The scene shifted.

Suddenly she was in a massive crystal castle. Evelyn recognized this place was the Crystal Kingdom, and she learnt it from geography class. She was in the colossal courtyard of the Crystal Palace. The ground was tessellated with stone tiles and there was a huge fountain in the middle of the courtyard which had two fish statues sprouting water out of their mouths. Bush hedges surrounded the gloomy courtyard. But most interesting of all, there were two girls looking almost identical with each other playing in the yard. And one looked very much like Evelyn! One girl had amber eyes and the other had sea-grey eyes. They both looked like Queen Ember and Queen Crystal’s doppelgangers. ‘When you grow up, which kingdom will you rule?’ asked the girl with amber eyes. ‘I think this one will do fine’, replied the other girl. ‘And when I have a child, I’m going to name her ‘Eleanor’, she continued. ‘Cool, sis but be quiet because the posh old Mrs Ember is marching this way’, said the amber eyed girl looking annoyed. ‘Surprising she has the same last name as you’, whispered the sea-grey one to the amber girl. A tall shrimp like version of the principal of Ember School trotted into the yard. ‘I would like to inform you, princesses that your mum and dad have made a decision. You will be separated because of the lack of learning you have from being together. Its for your own good. Ruth, you will be taken to Ember kingdom where you will rule. And Eva, you will stay here’, exclaimed the lady.

The dream moved once again. The same two girls in a royal bedroom but this time both crying unstoppably. ‘At least its the kingdom we wanted to rule’, said the amber girl. There was a knock on the heavy oak door. ‘Bye sister’, sniffed the sea-grey girl. They both embraced each other and Evelyn woke up. Evelyn was sweating when she woke. Maybe she could ask the principal or the queen? the queen seemed like a better choice. Evelyn grabbed a shirt that said hot and put a pair of sneakers on with a pair of shorts. I could try teleporting for once, while nobody is here, thought Evelyn. She closed her eyes and found herself standing in front of the majestic palace. She knocked on the gigantic oak door which swung open without anyone. After getting lost through some long hallways and corridors, she finally made it to the throne room. Without thinking, she opened the golden door. The throne room was deserted, except for the bored queen on her magnificent throne. ‘Can I have a private talk with you?’ asked Evelyn, ungracefully tripping while trying to bow. ‘I suppose so’, yawned the queen in an unqueenly way. ‘Come.’ Evelyn followed the queen to a stone chamber with a table and two chairs. The queen gestured for Evelyn to sit. ‘Now open that mouth of yours and speak.’, ordered the queen. ‘OK, said Evelyn taking a deep breath. ‘Were you sisters with Queen Crystal?’ The queen trembled. Her mouth tried to form words unsuccessfully. Instead the queen just nodded. Finally she spoke. ‘You know, you kind of look like her. Sir Rufus also does.’ Evelyn nodded. ‘YOUR MAJESTY ITS BREAKFAST HOUR!’ came a voice that broke the silence. ‘Excuse me’, apologised the queen. ‘But I must be going. See you soon’. As Evelyn walked out of the castle, she thought. Something strange is going on. Something very strange. But that mystery is for later. My brain must now listen to stupid Diabolos’s voice. Evelyn walked to the forest for her morning stroll. A shadow appeared behind her. An unknown hidden stalker…

The Dragon’s Heart- Chapter 1-The One Who Stood (just edited If you already read it, please read it again because I changed somethings)

The demon’s awoke in the majestic smell of…magic. The king of demons, Diabolos, followed the scent to a gifted magical baby girl called Elenore with water powers. He snatched her from her parents, Queen Sapphire and King Rufus. Elenore was taken to the demon’s lair.

Diabolos wanted the magic for himself. He was about to strike the slumbering girl with his trident when suddenly, the girl woke up unexpectedly and Diabolos’s trident rose in the air, and stabbed Diabolos himself in the heart. He screamed in agony as lava poured out of his body. The girl, Elenore, fell asleep again peacefully on the volcano ground sleeping, as the lava did not affect her.

Three explorers went to explore the volcano that night. They watched the whole scene happen in horror. One explorer fainted. The other went nauseous. The one remaining explorer picked up the baby and the other two bodies with massive effort. It didn’t help that the fainted explorer was actually fat and overweight. But it did help that the explorer that went nauseous actually did workout everyday.

With no idea where the baby came from, the one explorer took the baby and the overweight explorer (and the nauseous one) to Ember kingdom where the explorers came from.  Many years later, Elenore was eleven. She grew to be determined, adventurous, funny and free-spirited. She had long, dark hair. Her skin was a little sunburnt after spending eleven years in the scorching Ember kingdom. She also had greyish blue eyes- the colour of the ocean. Elenore could control water, talk to sea animals and breathe underwater.

Of course, when the explorer took her to Ember kingdom, he had no idea what Elenore’s name was. Elenore didn’t even know her own name. She slept in a modern cabin. One night when she was in her cabin, reading, a knight of Ember kingdom called her to a meeting with the king and queen. She never met with the king and queen before. She slipped on her white coat and jeans. The walk to the castle was not very long. When she stepped into the castle, it was just like any other castle. Majestic, warm and grand.

They entered the massive throne room. The windows were mosaic stained glass. There were grand chandeliers everywhere on the roof. A long royal satin carpet leading to the thrones. The thrones had a pure gold base. They were covered in silk for the king and queen to sit on comfortably. There were two gargoyles of a phoenix (one next to each throne.) The king and queen were dressed in fine robes. The queens robe was purple and the kings was red. Their crowns sparkled in the light of the chandeliers. ‘Your majesties’ said the knight ‘I was wondering if we could give the girl a fake name while we search for her real name?’ asked the knight. The king and queen considered this for a moment. It was an awkward silence for about ten seconds. ‘Yes. Yes, that might just work’ said the king. The queen nodded and said ‘ I think you can choose Sir Rufus’ said the queen to the knight. The knight, Sir Rufus, was silent for a long time. ‘What about Evelyn Sapphire’  suggested Sir Rufus at last. ‘That would be acceptable. But with a last name like that, won’t people think  she is from the Crystal Kingdom, our enemy?’ asked the queen.’ Well there is a chance she is from the Crystal kingdom, isn’t there?’ asked Sir Rufus. ‘ Yes, alright’ said the king. ‘You are dismissed.’ ‘But does that mean that’s my name temporarily?’ asked Evelyn. ‘Yes, correct.’ said the king. ‘Now out.’ ‘You will be signed in to the School of Embers’ said the queen. Then Evelyn and the knight left the castle.

Each afternoon, Evelyn would walk to the forest and stare at the lake trying to guess which kingdom she came from. It was said that Diabolos only attacked the girl because he knew Evelyn would be destined to kill him, since Diabolos had fire power and Evelyn had water power. The two opposing elements.

Evelyn had power because she was the destined one. The destined one is someone who is destined to defeat evil and learn how to control magic. She or he is supposed to go on an epic journey bringing teamwork friendship and persistence along with them. And there she stood. The only person who ever survived the king of demons. Everyday, Evelyn would hear the cackle of Diabolos inside her head, and never tell anyone about it. ”I await you”

On a scorching hot day as usual, Evelyn started her first day of the School of Embers. There she had to take a tour with a girl called Lily Phionexfeather, the school guide. She was a tall teenager with green eyes, a splash of freckles and a proud determined look. ‘Please take the new student on a tour around the school may I ask Lily’ said the school ten feet tall principal, Miss Elburn with a high shrill voice.

Lily nodded and gestured for Evelyn to follow her. ‘Don’t worry the principal is a little dark sometimes, just don’t get in trouble or she’ll give you twenty smacks on the back with her truck sized hand,’ giggled Lily. Evelyn asked why they even chose Miss Elburn as a principal. ‘Because she’s a strict but fair teacher,’ replied Lily with a voice of hatred. After a hundred more questions from Evelyn , Lily asked, ‘would you like to be friends? I see your lonely.’ Evelyn accepted the offer gladly and just in time, the lunch bell rang.

At lunch, Evelyn saw a skinny short boy with a tattered maroon shirt and ripped jeans. ‘Who is that and why does his shirt look like he’s been in lava for a year?’ asked Evelyn. ‘Oh that’s Hector Aquaspear and he’s just won the Ember Death Tournament’ replied Lily with a mouthful of lettuce. ‘What’s the Ember Death Tournament?’ questioned Evelyn. ‘It’s where all the student’s have to fight to their death and the last one standing wins, but don’t worry cause you always revive at the school gate’ ‘here you try’ said Lily. She grabbed her axe and cut Evelyn’s head off. In a second Evelyn was standing in front of the gate. ‘But if you get killed outside of the school you’re dead’ said Hector’s voice behind them.

Judging by Lily’s look on her face, Hector said, ‘Sorry don’t mind me I was just interested.’  ‘uh… okay.’ replied Lily. Evelyn poked in and asked Hector,’ can you teach us battle stuff?’ Lily then cut in and said ‘oh no no no we’re fine’ but Hector then started blabbering about sword and shield protection. After a while Hector randomly stopped and said, ‘sorry if I’m making you bored’ he said looking at Lily who was yawning every eight seconds. Not long after Lily woke up and said that she and Evelyn would make friends with him if he stopped talking about swordsmanship. Later that day, Sir Rufus told Evelyn that she would be staying in the Ember Palace in dorm 199.

It was not long after that Evelyn found out that Lily was good at inventing stuff and Hector was good at battling and being annoying. Back at Ember Palace Evelyn was exhausted and jumped on her queen sized bed In room 199.

Ember Palace was a warm, cosy place with 1000 rooms. Evelyn lived in room 199 with a fireplace, a soft bed and other furniture you’d expect to see in a dorm. Evelyn’s maid was a plump lady with a bun and a dark blue apron called Maya.

In Ember Kingdom, Evelyn learned how to fight with a sword (she had to use a baseball bat because you would be given a permanent sword only if you were an expert). The training leader was a blue-eyed boy called Leo Sullivan. She also did archery and hard studies of the magical world and monsters.

One extremely hot summer, Evelyn, Lily and Hector were walking down the Ember palace hallway. ‘I’d give anything for a nice refreshing drink’ said Lily. ‘ Oh shut up you said that about half a million times already’ exclaimed Hector sounding annoyed. ‘Evelyn please!’ said Lily and Hector for the one thousandth time. ‘FINE.’ said Evelyn, frustrated. Evelyn curled her fists and closed her eyes. Ice, ice, ice… She opened her eyes. Evelyn just made Lily and Hector turn to ice cubes. She unfroze them and they sighed with relief.

Suddenly, an announcement came. ‘EVELYN SAPPHIRE, LILY PHEONIXFEATHER AND HECTOR AQUASPEAR, COME TO MAIN OFFICE NOW’ ‘Man, why am I always last in the announcements’ whined Hector.

In the main office, Leo Sullivan, the sword master, was waiting for them. ‘Congratulations!’ Leo exclaimed cheerfully. ‘You’ve received your swords for outstanding swordsmen skills and development in reflecting, sneak-attacking and swift strikes.’ ‘Umm…okay,’ Hector said with a puzzled look. ‘Hector, your sword is made of the rarest bronze, name it Windstrike.’ ‘Sweet,’ Hector exclaimed. ‘Lily, your sword is made of smooth silver, Stormstrider.’ Lily clawed at her face. ‘And Evelyn, your sword is made of pure gold. Treat Lightriser carefully’ Evelyn grabbed her sword and stared at it in awe. ‘You may leave now’ said Leo.

When they left the main office, the three were really proud of their swords. ‘Woah! pure gold, no fair!’ Hector kept on saying to Evelyn. That night, Evelyn couldn’t sleep. It felt strange being called ‘Evelyn.’ But finally, she fell asleep and everything blacked out. She drifted into snoring mode.

Sara’s Toy Room

Sara is a lovely girl who has long hair,  and she likes pink clothes. But she has a very messy toy room. How messy? See with your own eyes.

messy_toy.PNG

In week one, Daddy asked Sara, “when are you going to clean up your toy room?”  Sara said, “don’t worry Daddy, I will clean it up.”

In week two, Daddy asked Sara again, “when are you going to tidy up your toy room? It is so messy, no one wants to play in it.”  Sara said, “when I have time, may be next week.”

In week three, the toy room remained messy. Daddy sighed.

Then, Daddy had a dream that night, and in the dream, the room remained messy for a very long time. One day, a little girl appeared in the toy room, she was wearing pink dress and she was cleaning the room. Daddy looked at the girl and asked, “who are you?” The girl answered, “I am Sara’s daughter. My Mum never got time to clean the room, so I came to clean the toy room.”

Daddy woke up, and the toy room looked like this.

A girl in pink cloth smiled and said, “I tidied up the toy room, Daddy”. Guess what, it was Sara.

The Poor Lost Elephant

A lost elephant lost its family. Along came a giraffe trotting by. The giraffe said:” Are you lot?” “Yes”, said the lost elephant shyly. “I can help you”, said the giraffe. “Thanks”, replied the elephant, a bit less shy.

As they walked along, a bunch of eagles came swooping in and grabbed the elephant and took off. The giraffe reached out its long neck and grabbed the elephant.

Soon the elephant was down. But the giraffe fell into a lake and was heading for a water fall! Just then a familiar elephant appeared in front of the poor lost elephant. They got closer and closer and they looked confused. They held trunks and saw each other. “Mum?” said the elephant. They knew they were in a family. The elephant told her Mum to come. The Mum grabbed hold of the giraffe and the giraffe was safe. And they lived happily ever after.

The end.
